What can I expect from my treatment?
Injured? In pain? Want to move better?
Firstly we require you to attend a consultation which can last for up to 60 minutes. It allows us time to thoroughly go through an assessment of your body which will involve lots of moving around. We do very little assessments on the treatment couch. If you are having pain bending forward, we need to see you bend forward and find out why there is pain. Laying you down on the couch and having a prod is going to give us very little information. Our aim is always to get you back as soon as we can and staying as close to the task you are struggling with is going to help the most.
Once the consult is complete, we will go through our findings and what strategy we think is going to help you. We will tailor a rehabilitation programme for you with clear instruction. You won’t leave the clinic until you know exactly what you are doing. We will then guide you through your treatment programme and aim to get you back stronger, pain free and moving better.
Our services include:
In order to restore a full, pain-free range of motion to a joint or muscle we utilise a variety of practical techniques. These include sports massage, joint mobilisations, mobilisations with movement (MWM), manipulations, myofascial release and muscle energy techniques.
Gait analysis & orthotic prescription
Incorrect biomechanics of the lower extremity can be influenced through orthotic prescription. We can assess your gait and make a decision as to whether a set of orthotics will benefit you.
Want to help with recovery or just feel a little more mobile? This deep tissue treatment is thought to work by reducing excessive post- exercise muscle tone, increasing muscle range of motion, circulation and nutrition to damaged tissue and deactivating symptomatic trigger points. As well as improving soft tissue function, massage may identify soft tissue abnormalities, which could lead to injury.
Taping can be used to restrict undesired, potentially harmful movement and allow desired movement. It can be used in injury prevention and in rehabilitation.
Strength & conditioning
Musculoskeletal injuries require active rehabilitation in order to return to a pre-injury state with full function. By incorporating this type of training you will build strength and also reduce the chance of re-injury. We advise strength and conditioning exercises to enable a quick recovery so you can perform optimally as soon as possible.
Incorrect biomechanics are frequently associated with injuries. Using a thorough biomechanical screening process, we can identify areas of weakness, dysfunction, poor motor control and restriction. We then design a treatment programme that will work towards correcting any abnormalities.
We find out so much regarding the injury/pain through talking to our clients. This involves talking about the behaviour of their symptoms, their daily routine, training routine etc. This can paint a fairly clear picture of things we can immediately change which might help symptoms. What you can certainly expect from us:
We won’t claim your joint is out of place. This just doesn’t happen. Our body is much stronger than we give it credit for. We won’t just massage the painful area. This might help firefight but it is unlikely the area which is causing the problem. We won’t use any gimmicky equipment. Ultrasound works just as effectively when it isn’t switched on…. Think about that. The emphasis is on you. We will teach and empower you on how to fix yourself.
We are friendly, professional and knowledgeable therapists. You are more than welcome to bring your coffee into the clinic for some support!
