What happens if you want to continue to train?
What if you pick up an injury or you can’t train because you are injured? Can you still get help?
Both industries have been forced to go online. It has completely changed the way we interact and forced change.
However, there is still so much value to be gained in virtual sessions in both industries and we can still help you as therapists and PT’s.
Virtual therapy sessions will force therapists to really go deeper in the subjective information gathering which is ALWAYS going to be a good thing. As my career has progressed, this is where I have improved the most.
What was the outcome of an online therapy session?
I learnt that listening more allowed me to go deeper into the problem and provided so many more answers. It provided more information around the injury which I could then change/manipulate to help decrease pain & improve symptoms. WIN!
It will also give us the opportunity to improve even further as therapists because we are forced to extract more information. Less time will be spent on tissue work & more time will be spent on changing so many other variables.
Social factors, psychological factors, movement, training volume/style, rehabilitation plans, exercise prescription; these are all huge factors that need to be explored when treating an injury and can all be done virtually.
Furthermore, as personal trainers the same applies. Excellent personal trainers/coaches are not there to be your cheerleader and count your reps. They should understand you as a client, your needs, your lifestyle, your goals and everything around your training. If this is understood correctly then you will still be prescribed the right exercises and variables.
Yes you will lose the social interaction but the outcome should still be the same.
If you need help with an injury, keep seeking help and don’t be afraid that the absence of a clinic or gym means you won’t get better.
Advice, education and tweaks to your training are often the biggest components to getting you back pain free.
