Injury problems aside, a couple of weeks ago, I listened to a podcast by sigma nutrition who interviewed Dr Tom O’bryan. I found this to be extremely informative so I emailed him and asked for the transcript. If you’re serious about your health, then please have a read and take these points on board. Below is the summary:
The main points:
The number 3 cause of getting sick and dying in the industrialized world is autoimmune diseases.
All autoimmune diseases appear to have a similar mechanism in their development.
Its called the trilogy of development of autoimmune diseases and it includes a genetic vulnerability (number 1) and you can’t do anything about your genes.
Just because you have a gene for rheumatoid doesn’t mean you’re going to get rheumatoid, it means you’re more vulnerable than a person who doesn’t have a gene for rheumatoid.
If you pull at a chain it breaks at the weakest link, it’s a one end, the middle the other end, wherever the weak link is. It could be your brain, your heart, your lungs, your liver, your joints, your energy. Wherever your genetic weak link is.
The second is an environmental trigger. when you’ve been exposed to too much of something and your body can’t compensate anymore, now it starts affecting you.
Intestinal permeability, and the slang term is the leaky gut. So the number 3 cause of getting sick and dying is genetic vulnerability, environmental trigger, intestinal permeability, causing the development of an auto immune condition.
We also know that athelse sclerosis, the process of your pipes plugging up before you get a heart attack, atthels sclerosis is an auto immune process. It begins with an auto immune process, so an auto immunity means that your immune system is attacking your own tissue.
So if we include atthels sclerosis as part of the auto immune rilgy of potential symptoms, weak links in a chain that means that the immune process, the auto immune process is the number one cause of getting sick and dying in the world today and people don’t know this.
They get diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and they think that their loved ones passed because they had rheumatoid but it could be that rheumatoid secondary to an environmental trigger.
And the most common environmental trigger that’s been shown in the medical literature, the most common environmental trigger that sets up this whole process is gluten.
Wherever your genetic weak link is if you have a sensitivity to gluten its going to be the fuel on the fire to make that weak link more likely to manifest itself.
We are not just talking about people with CELIACS.
Symptoms may also be in the brain – Schizophrenia, Ataxia which is the inability to walk very well. Depression, attention deficit, anxiety. The studies are coming out now with a gluten sensitivity without celiac disease that once identified and if you take them off of gluten their symptom patterns go down dramatically and sometimes reverse completely.
The most common system of the body that is affected by gluten is the brain.
But the most common system that has been identified in literature so far is the gut.
No human can digest gluten. Absolutely no human can digest the gluten proteins in wheat.
Because the fastest growing cells in your body are the inside lining of your intestines. Every 3 – 7 days you have a new lining to your intestines. These cells are turning over very quickly. So you eat gluten for breakfast, you have toast for breakfast and you get something called intestinal permeability. That tears in the intestines.
The intestines are a tube, 20 – 25 feet long, it winds around inside the abdomen. The inside of the tube is lined with shaggy carpeting. This shag is where calcium’s absorb. This cells over here magnesium. The shags over here B-vitamins, the shags over here proteins. These shags the good fats. All the shags absorb different nutrients. Now celiac disease is when your shags wear down and you’ve got barber. You don’t have shags anymore and you don’t absorb your nutrients very well. So you get osteoporosis, or you get anemia, you get different diseases because the shags have worn down. But before they wear down…so you’ve got these shags in your intestines, all these shags are covered with a cheese cloth. And the cheese cloth is designed to only let certain sized molecules to get through from the lining, where the food is going down the tube, only that certain sized molecules of the food get through the cheese cloth into the blood stream. So into the shags and then into the bloodstream to go everywhere in our bodies. Its kind of our screen so large pieces of dirt on an apple can’t get in and things like that. So that cheese cloth and the lining is rebuilding every 3 – 7 days. Now you eat gluten and it causes a tear in the cheese cloth. Within 3 -5 hours of eating it. But the intestines heal. Fastest growing cells in the body. But then you have a sandwich for lunch. Tears in the cheese cloth within 3 – 5 Within 3 -5 hours of eating it. But the intestines heal. Fastest growing cells in the body. But then you have a pasta for dinner. Within 3 -5 hours of eating it. But then it heals. Fastest growing cells in the body. The next day you have pancakes for breakfast, tears in the cheesecloth, within 3 -5 hours. But it heals. Fastest growing cells in the body. So if you get the rhythm of this, the most common food, at least in the US and I think in Europe that people eat, the most common food is wheat based products. So we’re exposing our intestines to this gasoline that causes a fire, it causes inflammation in the intestines and at some point, somewhere down the road you get what’s called a loss of oral towers. What that means, what you takes in orally, what you eat, your body can’t tolerate anymore, it can’t compensate for and now you get tears in the cheese cloth that don’t heal. And that’s called intestinal permeability. The slang term is a leaky gut. And when you get this intestinal permeability, tears in the cheese cloth, now these larger molecules get through into the blood stream and these larger molecules are not substances that your body recognizes as building supplies. To build new muscle. Build new bone cells, build new enzymes, new hormones. Its not good building supplies, these molecules are way too big. They’re called macro molecules, big molecules. Now your immune system has to come in to play to fight these things that have invaded the blood stream and you start making antibodies to gluten or raspberries or bananas or beef. And these are the people that are allergic to 15 – 20 – 25 different foods when they do a test. And they’re not allergic…well they are, because their immune systems responding. But when you heal the cheese cloth and stop causing more tears in the cheese cloth, the person may be allergic to 1 food, maybe 2.
Dr. Pasano gives us the studies to show that no human can digest wheat. Impossible for humans to digest it. It doesn’t cause a problem for everyone, and that’s because they’ve not yet crossed the line. But they’re likely to somewhere down the road. Its very ,very common.
A paper came out in 2011 that was so exciting. It talked about early Parkinson’s disease. There’s no such thing as early Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s disease is diagnosed by symptoms. By the symptoms a person has, so what’s early before symptoms, how do you know? How do you know? They found out. They finally found out. And they found that its in the gut. They found that there is this compound called alpha sinuclean, produced in the gut, and there is intestinal permeability and these molecules travel up the nerves, they go from the…its called the interic nervous system. It’s the nervous system in the gut, and they travel up the Vegas nerve up to the brain and cause the damage to the area of the brain called the substantial nigra where Parkinson’s occurs. And they’ve identified the early mechanisms are in the gut. So you get this inflammation going causing these tears in the cheese cloth, and there are many things that may cause tears in the cheese cloth. But the ones that are unquestionably all that time they cause tears in the cheese cloth, there are 2. one is gluten and the other is lypo-polysacrize which is the exhaust if you will from grand negative bacteria in the guts so those two markers gluten is the one clue that has been conclusively identified to cause tears in the cheese cloth and the other is lypo-polysacrize.
The components of gluten that the body makes antibodies to considers the foreign substance that’s called an antigen of foreign substance there are amino acids there are protein structures, groups of amino acids. So the body makes antibodies to amino acids of gluten. Think of protein like a pearl necklace and its multi colored pearls and those pearls each of the pearls are amino acids and certain groups of the necklace the body makes antibodies to. And the most common one is called alphaglyden and its thirty three beads long or 33 amino acids long. I’m just going to refer to it as AABCD.. I’m not going do 33 letters but just know that as I say aabcd I am referring to alphaglyden the most common pepatid of gluten that the body make the antibodies to.
So we eat gluten its causes tear in the cheese cloth we cross the line of oral tolerance and now these gluten molecules get in through the torn cheese cloth into the blood stream. The body says what’s this, this is not good for me I better fight this and the analogy I use is Arnold Schwarzenegger. here in California they call him the governator and so if you have Arnold Schwarzenegger with heads sticking out of humV the big army type vehicle and he is got a big some machine gun in his hands he got these dark glasses on and he is looking for these alphaglyden molecules and Arnold is a antibody and the antibody going through the blood stream looking for the glyden molecules to destroy them over there over there and he fires chemical bullets called sidacines to destroy those molecules in the blood stream. He’s looking for aabcd, he’s firing these molecules to aabcd.
So Arnolds firing his chemical bullets at aabcd. Now the blood travels everywhere in the body, right? So it goes past the thyroid, I’ll use the example of the thyroid, and the surface of the thyroid that the blood travels past, is made up of proteins and fats. Proteins are made up of amino acids. There are different beads of necklaces. There are different proteins to thyroids than there is proteins to liver, but they’re made of the same amino acids but just different colors together. So Arnold is going through the blood stream and he sees over there, aabcd. Because the amino acids that make up the wall of the thyroid are hundreds of amino acids long but a section of it may be aabcd. So Arnold fires his chemical bullets at aabcd. He damages that cell, happens to be a thyroid cell, the body that make antibodies to get rid of the damaged thyroid cells. That’s normal. That’s why we all have a normal number of antibodies to a tissue. Cause we’re cleaning up the old cells, the damaged cells getting rid of them and making room for the new ones.
But now, you had toast for breakfast, Arnold’s out there fighting aabcd, you had a sandwich for lunch. More Arnolds are out there fighting aabcd, they’re firing at the thyroid. You have pasta for dinner, more Arnolds are coming out firing chemical bullets at aabcd at the thyroid. So you’re attacking you’re thyroid in this example again and again and again and again until eventually the mechanism making anti bodies to the thyroid became self perpetuating. Now you’ve got the auto immune condition called hashi motos thyroid, because aabcd looks very similar or identical to aabcd of alpha glyden from the wheat that your body could not digest properly. And that happens with myelin, which is the coating around your nerves, that’s what causes that mess, when myelin antibodies are destroying the myelin, that happens with the cerebellum in the brain and by the time you’re an elder you loose your balance you can’t walk very well. Because your brains been attacked for years, that happens with the joints, that happens with your muscles, that happens with your liver, that happens with your kidney, aabcd is a very common component of the different necklaces in your body. So depending on where your genetic vulnerability is that’s where Arnold is going to attack your tissue. And that’s the auto immune mechanism that gets set up. Its called molecular mimicry.
You get vaccinated for measles. They give you a shot of the bug measles. And you’re brain says, well what this is, and directs the immune system, you general in your immune systems you’ve got army, air force, marine core generals sitting around with nothing to do, and the brain says, you general, you now are general measles. Take care of this. General measles builds an assembly line. It takes weeks and weeks to build the assembly line .the assembly line starts producing soldiers called antibodies, that Arnold. These antibodies are trained as assassins to go after measles. That’s all they do, and they look for measles and they fire chemical bullets to measles. To destroy the measles. When all the measles bugs from the vaccination are gone, general measles is monitoring this and says ok turn off the assembly line. We don’t need any more soldiers right now. And you should not have measles antibodies in your bloodstream right now. You shouldn’t unless you’ve been exposed and then you should have some. But general measles is now vigilant the rest of his life. The rest of his life. If measles ever come back into your body, general measles just has to flip the switch. He doesn’t have to build the assembly line, he just has to turn it back on again and the antibodies start being produced very quickly. That’s why if you go to Africa to visit you need vaccinations months and months ahead of time for yellow fever and dengue fever and all these strange diseases. But if you go back to visit ten years later, you just need a booster shot 2 weeks before you go because the booster shot wakes up general yellow fever and general dengue fever. Wakes them back up and starts making antibodies so your system is protected. That’s the theory behind how vaccinations work. And what all doctors forget, because they only got a very short course in medical school is that when you start making antibodies to gluten, you’ve got general gluten. Its called a memory b cell. And the memory b cells don’t forget, and they don’t go away. So can I have a little gluten? The answer is no. you can’t. Because you turn on general gluten again and if your genetic weak link is to your thyroid then you’re going to start getting antibodies to your thyroid again. And you start destroying your thyroid, or you start destroying your brain. And that’s the number 3 cause of death in the world, is autoimmunity. That’s why you can not have a little. You can’t be a little pregnant, you can not have a little gluten. Sorry to be so strict, but it is not my idea, that’s physiology. And the only way that it is even possible that you can have gluten again is if you do the blood test, you identify the problems there, you go on the gluten-free diet and take the nutrition that’s recommended to you…as you mentioned some of that includes glutamine, vitamin d, fish oils, curcumin. There’s a number of products that are very helpful to help you heal. You recheck the blood work later, 6 months to a year later, you find out the antibodies to gluten are gone, good. Can I have gluten? I don’t think so. But if you want to check let’s do the blood test, good the antibodies are all gone, so go ahead and have some gluten for a few weeks and wait few more weeks and then do the blood test again and if the anti bodies have come back up then there’s your answer.
