Injuries We Help With

Sports injuries we help with

Muscle Strains & Tears

Hamstring, quad, calf and groin strains, from mild strains to more significant tears. Early assessment and progressive rehab help you return with confidence.

Ligament Sprains

Ankle, knee and shoulder ligament injuries, from recent sprains to rehab after ligament reconstruction surgery.

Tendon Injuries

Achilles, patellar and rotator cuff tendinopathy, plus tennis and golfer's elbow. Progressive loading is central to tendon rehab.

Bone Stress Injuries

Stress reactions from repeated loading, common in runners, dancers and team sport players. If we suspect one, we'll refer you to your GP for investigation and help manage your load.

Knee Injuries

Ligament and meniscus injuries, runner's knee and IT band pain, managed with rehab and, where needed, support after surgery.

Shoulder Injuries

Rotator cuff problems, AC joint injuries and shoulder pain in athletes, both recent and long-standing.

FAQs

Sports injury questions answered

What's the best approach for a sports injury?
It depends on the type and severity of the injury. Most sports injuries benefit from an early assessment to work out what's going on, manage pain and swelling, and start a structured rehab plan.
How soon should I get a sports injury assessed?
Ideally within a few days. Early assessment lets us check for anything that needs medical attention and start the right rehab sooner. Putting it off can mean a longer road back.
Should I see a physiotherapist or a sports therapist?
Both can assess sports injuries and guide your rehab. Our physiotherapists are HCPC-registered, and our sports therapists specialise in sport and exercise injuries. If you're not sure which to book, get in touch and we'll point you in the right direction.
Do you offer return-to-sport testing?
Yes. We test strength, power, balance and sport-specific movement to help you and your coach decide when you're ready to return to full training and matches. Going back too early is a common cause of re-injury, so we take this step seriously.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You don't need a referral to book with our physiotherapists or sports therapists. If you have any of the warning signs listed on this page, please see your GP or seek urgent medical help first.

"Highly recommend for running-related issues. Jess put together a clear plan to get me ready for my marathon, and her communication was excellent throughout. Thank you!"

"Referred after an increasingly painful knee was impacting on my exercise. Hannah was very thorough in her investigation and analysis of the problem. I noticed a steady but sustained improvement following the recommended exercises over the first week. The exercises were subsequently changed up and the improvement sustained over the next two weeks. What definitely helped was the link between the Injury Active Clinic and the Barn. Hannah provided a briefing for the coaches, ensuring the gym sessions reinforced the recommended physio programme."
